Memorial service for Lufkin doctor killed in Miss. plane crash scheduled

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A memorial service for a Lufkin doctor and his wife, killed in a plane crash Sunday morning, are scheduled for Friday.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Gipson's Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin.

Dr. Pickett's "Celebration of Life" service is Thursday in Alabama.  His wife's funeral will be in Kentwood, Louisiana on Saturday.

Pickett, 52, his wife and sister-in-law died when their private plane went down outside of McComb, Mississippi, just a few miles from the McComb-Pike County airport runway.

Pickett was a thoracic surgeon on staff at Memorial Health System in Lufkin.  Reports said the group went to New Orleans Saturday night to watch a friend, who's a musician, perform.  They were on their way back to McComb when the plane crash occurred.

The local coroner identified the deceased as Dr. Taylor Pickett, 52, and Laura Pickett, 22, and Jacqueline Ham.

Investigators are trying to determine why the 1970s model Cessna 310R Twin Engine Propeller plane crashed.
