They're not finished just yet.
The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners kept their playoff hopes alive with a sweep of Lamar State-Port Arthur, beating the Lady Seahawks 8-2 and 8-0 on Wednesday at Roadrunner Complex in Lufkin.
The wins keep AC (24-24, 8-10) just a single game back of fourth-place Galveston in the Region XIV South Zone. The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Alvin on Saturday before facing the Lady Whitecaps in a crucial doubleheader in Galveston on Wednesday.
Nightcap starting pitcher Kayla Bryan backed her own shutout performance on the mound by driving in three runs, two of those coming on a bases-loaded single in AC's four-run second inning. Brittani Stone drove in a pair of runs with a bases-loaded walk and a single, Kristen Curlin added an RBI and Shelby Wallace doubled and scored twice for the Lady 'Runners' 8-0 win in the nightcap.
Bryan allowed just one Lady Seahawk to reach third base in her six innings of work. The freshman from Colmesneil struck out three walked just one in the complete-game win.
In the opener, AC put up a three-run fifth and a four-run sixth to overcome an early 2-0 Lamar-Port Arthur lead built on a solo homer by Valerie Brown and a sacrifice fly from Samantha Williams. The Lady Roadrunners' Bryan drove in K.K. Samford – who'd reached on an error to lead off the inning and moved to second on a Hailey Peet sacrifice –and two more runs scored on fielder's choice plays. In the game-clinching sixth, Taylor Brookshire doubled home a pair of runs, and Brookshire and Bryan scored on an infield error to give the Lady Roadrunners their final 8-2 margin, giving starting pitcher Kristen Curlin the win.
