Longtime East Texas law enforcement officer dies

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A longtime law enforcement officer in the East Texas area died Wednesday. Harold Lloyd Goggans was 63.

According to Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Greg Sanches, Goggans worked as a DPS trooper from 1981 until his retirement in 2001. He was with Lufkin Police from 1975 until 1981.

Goggans came out of retirement in 2008 and worked as a deputy with the Trinity County Sheriff's Office. He resigned in 2009 because of cancer, which he died of on Wednesday.

"He was a very good law enforcement officer," Sanches said. "He was well-liked by the law enforcement community and a very professional trooper. I liked him a lot. He was always nice and good to me."

Goggans is survived by his wife, Pamela, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stacy Stubblefield and a daughter, Amy Luce.

A memorial service for will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Harmony Hill Baptist Church. Carroway Claybar Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
