NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - From the Nacogdoches Independent School District
In a special meeting on Thursday night, the Nacogdoches Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the naming of Dr. Fred Hayes of Athens Independent School District (AISD) as the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools and NISD's Mr. Ronny Knox as interim Superintendent.
Dr. Hayes has been an educator for the past 22 years and has served as AISD's superintendent since 2006. He is a former high school principal for Clear Creek ISD and the Jacksonville and Tyler school districts. Hayes is an active member of the Texas Association of School Administrators and a former Texas Association of Secondary School Principals' High School Principal of the Year and Region IV Principal of the Year. Hayes earned his doctorate and master's in Education from Baylor University and the University of Texas in Tyler.
"While I am very happy and satisfied as the superintendent of schools in Athens ISD, it is an honor to be named the lone finalist for the Nacogdoches ISD superintendency. The Nacogdoches board is a great group of people and I have enjoyed meeting them and talking with them about the district and my credentials. There is a 21 day waiting period that is required by law. After the 21 days are up and if Nacogdoches chooses to offer a contract, Gay Lynn and I will have a decision to make. It really is an exciting opportunity and we look forward to day 22," said Dr. Hayes.
The NISD Board of Trustees also selected Mr. Ronny Knox, assistant superintendent of instruction, as interim Superintendent. Mr. Knox will serve as interim Superintendent until the position is permanently filled. Mr. Knox has been with the district for 5 years and is in his 1st year as assistant superintendent of instruction. Mr. Knox has been an educator for more than 20 years-having worked in public and private schools as a teacher, vice-principal, principal and varsity athletic coach. He holds an Associate of Arts in English from Victoria College and a Masters and Bachelors of Education from the University of Houston-Victoria. Mr. Knox is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Education through Stephen F. Austin University.
