Lufkin man wrecks while racing to school, police say

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Criminal charges are pending for two Lufkin men who were racing to school before one of them wrecked, according to Lufkin Police.

According to the police report, Francisco Montes Jr., 17, was racing a 1994 Acura Integra against Joey Lenaris, 18, who was driving a 1992 Chevy. They were racing eastbound on Lufkin Avenue when Montes lost control of his car, left the roadway and struck several trees.

Montes suffered minor injuries but did not have to go to the hospital.

Both are enrolled at Lufkin High School and were on the way to school when the wreck occurred.

Sgt. Scott Cagnon said charges were pending on both men. A charge of racing is a Class B misdemeanor.
