LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - (KTRE) - Angelina County commissioners elected to extend the countywide burn ban by 90 days in an emergency meeting on Tuesday.
County Judge Wes Suiter said commissioners decided to extend the ban to the longest allowed by law as fire dangers are extreme, thanks to the dry conditions.
"We're going to have to have a substantial amount of rainfall over a prolonged period of time to get out of these drought conditions. [This is the] 4th dryest Texas has been in its history," said Suiter.
The East Texas forecast calls for a chance for storms today, though they will be few and far between. Cooler temperatures on Wednesday will bring another slight chance for storms.
