GRAPELAND, TX (KTRE) - (KTRE) - The, now former, Grapeland City Councilman Aaron Pennington was arrested for the second time this month for child sex crimes.
The Attorney General's Office made the arrest on Pennington, 30, Tuesday afternoon on a charge of sexual assault of a child.
According to an arrest affidavit, a Grapeland Police officer conducted a traffic stop with a 15-year-old boy, who said he was playing video games at Pennington's house.
Grapeland Police decided then to investigate claims that Pennington was involved in sexual exploits with boys. Sergeant Jerry Meadors with the A.G.'s office interviewed the boy, who said he had been involved in a sexual relationship with Pennington since 2010.
Meadors also interviewed Pennington, who confessed to having mutual intercourse with the boy on 10 separate occasions, according to the affidavit.
When the A.G.'s office conducted a search warrant in April, they recovered multiple images of the boy posing nude, which allowed them to arrest Pennington earlier this month on the child pornography charge.
"They were investigating the pornography and in that, they found information that may have led to other things, and it did lead to other information," said Donna Kaspar, Houston County District Attorney.
Kaspar said Grapeland Police Department requested assistance from the attorney general's office because the police department does not have the resources to investigate a cyber crime.
Pennington and his arrests continue to be the talk of the small town of Grapeland.
"... Because there is something wrong with people - with men - who would do that to a child," said Mary Thornel, Long-time Grapeland Resident.
Kaspar said there is a concern that with Pennington having been a public official in a small-town and being a part of a well-known family, that it may be tough to get an impartial jury.
