HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston woman charged with murder after a fire at her home day care killed four children says she hasn't spoken with the parents of any victims and is struggling to express her remorse.
In a jailhouse interview Wednesday, Jessica Tata told Houston television station KTRK she is in good spirits but that saying sorry "is not enough" for the Feb. 24 fire that also injured three other children.
Authorities believe the 22-year-old left all seven children alone while she went shopping, and that the fire was ignited by a stove-top burner that was left on at her Houston home.
Tata fled to Nigeria but was returned to the U.S. nearly a month later. She also faces reckless injury and child abandonment charges. She is jailed on $1 million bond.
