Two automobile fatalities occurred overnight in Deep East Texas.
Around 7:30 Friday night state troopers in Shelby County were called to a one vehicle crash on Farm to Market road 138. That's about 6 miles west of Center.
They found the driver of a Dodge pickup on the ground and unresponsive. Joseph Liker, 22 years old, of Center died a couple of hours later in the hospital.
According to the DPS, the pickup was traveling at an unsafe speed. The pickup left the roadway and struck a tree. It later caught on fire.
Earlier in the day, in Newton County a two vehicle collision left one dead. It happened a little after 5:00 p.m. On Farm to Market road 82, about 2 miles east of Kirbyville.
Melissa Arrant, 30 years old of Kirbyville, later died at a Jasper hospital. The DPS says a Dodge Ram driven by Davin Kemp, also of Kirbyville, crossed the Center line, hitting Arrant's pickup head on. The accident is still under investigation.
