Proud of East Texas: Miranda Lambert

By Joan Hallmark

Country music star Miranda Lambert tops off the biggest year in her career with a benefit "Cause for the Paws" concert in downtown Tyler April 30.

It's been only eight short year since Miranda Lambert said goodbye to Lindale and set off in her little red Chevy pickup for Nashville.

Miranda was one of ten finalists from throughout the country in the very first Nashville Star competition in 2003.

Although she came in third in Nashville Star, Miranda has parlayed her national exposure into one of the most meteoric rises in country music.

Miranda's 2005 debut album "Kerosene" put her in an exclusive club as one of only seven artists in the history of country music to come out of the box at number one, an award as ACM female vocalist of the year, soon followed.

The hits and awards just keep rolling in for Miranda with awards in 2010 surpassed only by top awards in 2011, including four CMA awards and a Grammy for best female country vocal performance of the year for her song, "The House that Built Me."

Miranda doesn't get to spend much time in the house she built next to her parents in Lindale. With public appearances, concerts on the road, and photo sessions, there isn't nearly as much time as she'd like for her writing her music and spending downtime with her fiancé Blake Shelton.

Lambert not only has pets herself, she want to help all the pets and for the past three years has headlined "Cause for the Paws" concerts. This year's concert in downtown Tyler promises to be the biggest yet, with proceeds benefiting not only the Humane Society of East Texas, but also other charity outlets that care for abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted animals.

Cause for the Paws 2011 is set for Saturday, April 30, from 3:30 until midnight.
