Davis ready to take recall as scheduled

Santa Ana, California-AP -- California Governor Gray Davis says he agrees with a federal appeals court decision to reinstate the October seventh election date in the gubernatorial recall.

Davis tells reporters he now believes he has the momentum to beat the recall -- and that the more people think about it, the more they realize it's not in California's best interests. The governor says that if the recall succeeds, it could begin a vicious cycle of retaliation. And he says no elected leader afterward would be willing to make tough and controversial decisions.Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, a presidential hopeful, appeared with Davis today in California -- and said Americans deserve to know that the people they elect won't be thrown out of office for serving in troubled times.
