NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Troopers with the Department of Public Safety continue to investigate a one-vehicle wreck which claimed the life of a Nacogdoches man last week.
Justin Pete Powell, 17, died when the Dodge pickup he was a passenger in flipped on County Road 817.
The initial report shows that a green Jeep was traveling southbound on the road and did not give the Dodge half the road and the driver of the Dodge, Jerry Glenn White Jr., 19, took evasive action and left the road and overturned the vehicle. Powell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and the driver of the Jeep fled the scene.
Sgt. James Brazil with Nacogdoches DPS said investigators have not been able to locate a driver of the Jeep.
Investigators will turn over evidence of the wreck to the Nacogdoches County District Attorney's Office, who will then present the case to a grand jury to determine if criminal activity is involved.
Brazil said everyone's role in the wreck will be presented as evidence to the DA's office.
In order to cover funeral expenses, the family is accepting donations through an account in Justin Pete Powell's name at all Huntington State Bank locations.
