Lufkin mom organizing teacher recognition cut by district funding

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin mother of three children in the Lufkin Independent School District is organizing a recognition banquet for teachers, an event formerly hosted by LISD but that has met the budget ax.

Robbie Walker said she is holding a meeting Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce to begin organizing the event. She said the group needs funding and volunteers from local businesses to pull it off.

"This is something that will cost thousands of dollars, and I just can't do it myself," Walker said.

For now, Walker is hoping for a good turnout at Wednesday's meeting.
