LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Soon the City of Lufkin could get the okay to drop off a dumpster in your driveway.

"Some of the residents have seen this and have already called and asked, could we bring the dumpster to them," said Lufkin Public Works Director Steve Floyd.

It's called the "Litter Critter" and if city council approves the price, residents could rent one of these small dumpsters for a few days.

You can dump construction waste from a remodel or spring cleaning. Then, city workers will pick it up and haul it off.

They charge $50 to put the dumpster in your driveway. It holds six cubic yards and if you hauled that much to the landfill yourself, it would cost you $42.

Kim Hughes is moving her daycare out of a church into a building she's remodeling.

"We need the Litter Critter to clean up just a little bit more of the remodel process that we have leftover," said Hughes, the owner of Storybook Hollow Childcare. "We've done the big job, and it's just a small thing, so we don't need one of the large ones."

Even with the fee, she said the dumpster would save hundreds of dollars.

The City of Lufkin still offers curbside pickup for free. However, if you're looking for a quick solution, it could be several days before workers get around to picking up your load.

"It's for the convenience," said Floyd. "We try to get to the work orders as quickly as possible, but last month we had over 900 work orders called in. A lot of people may not have the means to get it down to the curb if it's larger stuff and a lot of people don't have a pickup or trailer to haul it to the landfill."

It's service that could make a home improvement project that much easier.

If approved, you would be able to rent the dumpster Monday through Friday or over the weekend.
