LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police arrested three teenagers in connection to a string of car burglaries on Tuesday night.
Claudia Michelle Perez, 17, Sergio Rodriguez Jr., 18, and Lisette Zapata, 19, all of Lufkin, are charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.
Rodriguez pleaded guilty to his part in the crime on Wednesday, accepting a four-year probation sentence. He was still being held in the Angelina County Jail late Wednesday on a separate misdemeanor charge.
According to the arrest report, a witness reported to police that the suspects were acting suspiciously in the 800 block of Southwood Drive, saying they were loading property into their vehicle before quickly driving away. The responding officers located the vehicle a block away, at the intersection of Russell Avenue and McGregor Drive and searched the vehicle, finding numerous items stolen from vehicles in the area, according to the report.
The officers found that the trio had burglarized at least three vehicles on Russell Avenue, Southwood Drive and McGregor Drive. All three vehicles were unlocked when they were burglarized.
The three suspects were arrested at 11:20 p.m. and booked into the Angelina County Jail, with additional charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia and no driver's license for Perez, the same for Zapata and burglary of a vehicle from a March warrant for Rodriguez.
