ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Lufkin man on a charge of inappropriately touching an 11-year-old girl, following an investigation which began in 2007 following a homicide case.
James Harvey Knight, 67, is charged with indecency with a child, a second-degree felony.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the girl was at Knight's home in April 2007 when he told her to try on a bathing suit that he had bought for her. The girl stood in front of him while he was sitting in a chair and he reached out and touched her inappropriately, according to the affidavit.
The girl responded by slapping Knight across the face and asked him why he did it to her, in which he replied, "I don't know," according to the affidavit. Knight then left the house with her and acted like nothing happened from that point on.
The investigation into this allegation began on April 13, when Sgt. Bart Riley received a case from former Texas Ranger Pete Maskunas, who was investigating a death case in Hudson.
Riley said through investigating the incident, which remains an open investigation, Maskunas received information of inappropriate relationships with underage girls and sexual assaults with Knight. The case Knight is charged with is the only one that has not gone beyond the statute of limitations.
