Hospice in the Pines makeover project moves at 'phenomenal' speed

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Builders say volunteers have completed two months of construction work in just four days. That's the power of dedicated volunteers.

Since Tuesday, skilled workers have taken over a Hospice-owned building.  It will be the future home of Hospice in the Pines' administration.

The project is sponsored by the Deep East Texas Association of Builders.  Friday, ceiling tiles were being put up by a team of stilted volunteers.

"Hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week we'll be done," said Melvin Linton, chair of the project. "It's absolutely phenomenal. That's my favorite word to use. It's happening so fast and it's because we've got good quality, skilled workers."

From here, the plan is to get the air conditioning up and running and the flooring completed.
