ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A man who was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant is meeting a tougher punishment after Angelina County authorities say he tried to flush marijuana he had hidden in his underwear down the toilet at the jail.
Terrell Justin Rogers, 24, is charged with tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, Rogers was a passenger in a vehicle which an Angelina County Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop with on U.S. 59 South, north of Diboll. The deputy ran a check on Rogers, which came back with an outstanding warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. The deputy placed Rogers under arrest.
On the way to the Angelina County Jail, the deputy reported seeing Rogers chewing on something in the back of the car. When they reached the jail and got out of the car, the deputy said Rogers spit something on the ground. When the deputy asked what it was, the deputy reported Rogers replied, "It's weed."
As Rogers was being booked into the Angelina County Jail, the jailers asked Rogers to consent to a strip search, to which he obliged. Jailers brought him to a secured area of the jail and Rogers began taking off his clothes. When he took off his underwear, the jailers reported he pulled a baggie of marijuana out and hurriedly tried to flush it down the toilet.
According to the report, the baggie was too big to be flushed and Rogers tried to push it down the toilet.
The jailers managed to stop Rogers and charged him with the felony count of tampering with physical evidence and the misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
