East Texas accident kills driver, injures a passenger, investigation underway

COLDSPRING, TX (KTRE) -

A two vehicle collision near Coldspring has killed Terry Thomas, 52, and left her 46-year old passenger hospitalized.

The accident happened about 6:34 p.m. Wednesday on SH 156 in San Jacinto County.

DPS investigators said Frederick Faulkner, Jr., 24, was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 truck northbound on SH 156 on the wrong side  of the highway exiting a curve in a no passing zone when his truck collided with Thomas' oncoming Saturn near the center stripe.

Both drivers swerved to miss the other, however, the truck appeared to have been driven over the top of the car before both vehicles came to separate stops.  Thomas died at the scene, according to DPS Trooper W.R. Clark.

Ruphley McKinney, 46, a passenger in Thomas' vehicle, was taken by helicopter to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston.  His condition is unknown.

No citations were issued, however, the DPS report states possible charges are pending the outcome of an autopsy report, results of the reconstruction crash team report, and a DPS investigation.

Trooper Clark acknowledged that there were "a million rumors and speculations" circulating about this accident, however, "there were no indications on site that alcohol or drugs were involved, but it's still early in the investigation."
