Benefit to raise money to help Lufkin boy buy diabetic dog

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A fundraiser is being held for a Lufkin Middle School student who his mother says is in need of a dog which will help him treat his Type 1 diabetes.

The benefit for Sean McElhaney will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be a car wash and barbecue lunch. It will be held at Capital One Bank, located at 1610 South First Street in Lufkin, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The lunch is $5 and donations are requested for the car wash.

The dog is trained to sense when his blood sugar is off-kilter and alert him because his body doesn't always let him know when he's off. It will cost $6,000 and McElhaney's insurance will not cover the cost.
