Man arrested for stabbing Lufkin man, police say

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Port Arthur man is being held in the Angelina County Jail after police arrested him for stabbing a Lufkin man.

Chris Jerome Mitchell, 23, is charged with aggravated assault.

Lufkin Police Department Lt. David Young said officers were called to a fight in progress at Pineywood Apartments on the 200 block of East Denman Avenue in Lufkin shortly after midnight Saturday. Police say Jabroderick Rogers, 21, told them he had been stabbed on the right side of his face, the left side of his head and on his right shoulder.

According to police documents, the mother of Mitchell's child was at Roger's apartment. The alleged incident started after some text messages were exchanged.

Police collected a small folding box cutter knife for evidence.

Mitchell fled the scene on foot, according to a police report, but was seen walking on Charleton Street and arrested.

The report does not say if the victim sought medical treatment, but authorities said his injuries were not life-threatening.
