For seventy years, a colorful part of the city of Mineola's history has been all but forgotten. Now thanks to a group of hard working historians, the spotlight is finally shining on the Mineola Black Spiders.

The Mineola Black Spider Baseball Team barnstormed across the country from the early 1930's through 1941.

Because of the segregated time in which they played, their many successes were never reported by local news. This has made it difficult for historians to gather needed documentation for historical markers. Much needed help came from the midwest where the Black Spiders became celebrities and were widely covered by the news media. A state historical marker will be dedicated in honor of The Black Spiders May 21st , 2: p.m. At the Mineola City Hall.
