Lufkin man injured in shooting; Angelina lawmen arrest suspect

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting on FM 1475 in Angelina County.

Sgt. Bart Riley confirmed a Lufkin man, James Edwin Durham, 38, was shot around 3:30 p.m. Deputies took James Brent Shires, 21, of Lufkin, into custody on a charge of aggravated assault.

As of 5 p.m., Durham was listed in critical condition at Lufkin Memorial Medical Center.

Durham was arrested in November after deputies said he burned his mother's house while cooking meth.

Riley said witnesses at the scene identified Shires as the shooter. Deputies waited for him at his house and took him into custody when he arrived.

Riley said he did not yet know why Shires shot Durham.

According to the Angelina County Jail, Shires has 7 prior arrests. Those charges range from assault/ family violence and disorderly conduct, to posession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

    Students who entered the Angelina County Youth Fair displayed the goats they've been raising for the past year on Thursday. Goats were judged on their broad shoulders, chest, their ability to be well balanced from head to tail and their muscle. They were divided into 5 weight classes ranging from light to heavy.
