ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Wednesday's shooting which left a Lufkin man seriously injured started as a fight between the victim and the suspect's friend, according to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Bart Riley said James Brent Shires, 21, of Lufkin, drove to the property on FM 1475 with a passenger. The passenger got out of the vehicle and began fighting with James Edwin Durham, 38. At some point, Shires shot Durham in the buttocks with a shotgun.
Riley said Shires and the passenger left the scene and went to Shires' residence. Deputies were waiting for Shires there and placed him under arrest on a charge of aggravated assault.
Durham was listed in stable condition in intensive care at Lufkin Memorial Medical Center on Thursday night.
