LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin police arrested Michael Range, Jr. Friday evening for failing to register as a sex offender.

According to police records, Range was told to register when he was released from prison just over a year ago.  Corporal Trent Sobolewski with LPD says he was living in Angelina County, but did not register as his sex offender status mandates.

Then, he moved into Lufkin's city limits, but still did not register.

LPD keeps tabs on all sex offenders living within the city limits.  Each officer is assigned a list of offenders they are required to make contact with at least once a month.

Sex offenders are supposed to update their information, for example, any time they move and change jobs.   Law requires them to give notice within days of making the change.
