TxDOT warns motorists of new traffic signals on University Drive

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

TxDOT press release

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is reminding motorists of recent changes to the traffic signals at FM 1275 (University Drive) and  SH 21 (Main Street). It is important to slow down and obey the signals as traffic gets acclimated to the changes.

The left turns from University to Main have been reconfigured. That means:

  • Only the vehicles in the designated left turn lanes are allowed to make a left turn movement. The other 2 lanes are assigned for thru traffic only.
  • The 3-section signal heads have been replaced with 5-section heads. The new signal head configuration will provide for a protected/permissive movement.
  • When a green ball is displayed, just as in the past, vehicles can make a left turn when gaps in traffic are adequate to do so safely.

TxDot says utilizing the 5-section signal heads the traffic controller can provide a protected movement for the left turns during peak traffic times.

TxDOT urges motorists to use caution when traveling through the new signals and to remember, if you wish to make a left turn you must drive in the designated left turn lane. All other lanes are for thru traffic or right turns. Also, watch for workers and equipment in the area as work continues on the remainder of the project. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.

For more information, call Kathi White at (936)633-4395. Information about TxDOT is also available through the department's web site www.txdot.gov.
