Outreach tour for emergency preparation visits Nacogdoches

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Texas Department of State Health Services is hosting a 19-city outreach tour to encourage Texans to prepare for manmade or natural emergencies.

The Ready or Not? tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Nacogdoches Walmart, located at 4810 North St.

DSHS staff will be available, along with local fire and police departments, emergency management offices, public health departments and other various community organizations to answer questions.

Visitors will be able to watch a new video series called Surviving Disaster: How Texans Prepare, that shows real-life experiences of disaster and the resolutions in planning emergencies.

A disaster supply kit will be on site that includes essential items such as battery-operated radios, flashlights, canned food and bottled water.

Visitors can also take the official Severe Weather Quiz, that tests people's knowledge about natural disasters, essential emergency supplies and what to do incase of an emergency.
