HUNTINGTON, TX (KTRE) – Those never-give-up Huntington Devilettes are headed to state after a dramatic comeback win Thursday night against Waco Robinson.
Huntington rallied back from a four run deficit to beat the Rockettes, 5-4, in the Class 3A Region 3 final.
Friday morning the hardworking Huntington softball squad was back on the field with their eyes set on next week's State Championship match.
"We were down 4, we were a little stressed out, but we just didn't stay worried the whole time, we kept our cool, we had timeouts and met in a circle and we just met together as a team, talked about it and figured out what we needed to do in situations and pulled through," said Cassidy Ivy, Senior.
"Our team is awesome, we have awesome chemistry and we just play together as a team and if we make an error, someone backs it up. If one person isn't hitting awesome like they usually are, another person picks them up and we just play together as a team," added teammate Ashley Wright.
The Huntington Devilettes say their secret to success is their 'never-give-up attitude.' They are a well-oiled team that has matured and grown together. They say their goal is state, but their focus is to win one game at a time. "Once the game gets started, we're very focused and we're in tuned to the game and each other and we vibe off each other," said Kelsey Kirkland.
"One thing really great about this team is we know when to have fun but we know when to be serious. We are a crazy team but we know when we step on that field, it comes down to serious," said Kelsie Vatten.
And they are serious. Huntington was down four runs in the fifth inning Thursday night when they buckled down and ran past Waco Robinson. The final score, Huntington, 5, Waco Robinson, 4.
It is uncertain who Huntington will face next week. They say they will be ready to play whoever shows up.
