LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - One of the most patriotic sites in East Texas is ready for this Memorial Day weekend in south Lufkin. Every year at this time, flags line the entry into the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Volunteers also place miniature American flags on the graves of every vet buried in the cemetery. You can see the inspiring Avenue of Flags Saturday through Monday.
"Patriotism of course first. Then, the sacrifice so many men made, and some women also made so we can do this. So we could have this opportunity. There's little bit of history involved in it too," said Derron Son, Family Service Counselor.
On Monday, the real festivities begin, including a balloon release, and free hot dog lunch. It starts at 11 A.M. at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
