This Memorial Day weekend, we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Such a man was Donnie Tidwell, who left a legacy for all of us.

Tidwell died at the age of 21 in a Viet Cong ambush April 12,1968, along with 15 other soldiers. Tidwell was a talented high school athlete who's hundred mile per hour fast balls secured him a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was able to play only one season before being shipped to Vietnam.

The Diana High School baseball field is named the "Donnie Tidwell Memorial Baseball Park" in his honor. A scholarship in Tidwell's name is also given each year to a graduating senior. Many of the students at the school probably don't even know who Tidwell is, but for those who knew him, his legacy lives on.
