Angelina Co. to host genealogical research workshop

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Angelina County Genealogical Society Press Release

The Angelina County Genealogical Society is looking for area citizens who want to answer the question, "Who Do You Think You Are?"

With the success of the popular TV show motivating them, ACGS wants to spread genealogy throughout the Pineywoods, and the society has a plan. ACGS is inviting East Texans to the genealogy room at Kurth Memorial Library, 706 South Raguet, Saturday morning, June 4.

It‘s free -- really. Those who come will get individual one-on-one family research help from the experts.

Vivian Cates of Alto, workshop chairman for the Angelina County Genealogical Society, and other society members will be assisted by the library staff at this workshop.

"We won't lecture you, and we won't charge you a fee," Mrs. Cates said. "Spreading family research-genealogy is one of the goals of our Society."

The workshop is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until 12:30 p.m. Regular library hours on Saturday are 9 a.m. till 1 p.m.

This is the first of two workshops that Mrs. Cates' group has scheduled for this summer. Date for the follow-up workshop is Monday, Aug. 15, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.   (Regular Monday library hours are 10 a.m. – 7 p.m..)

"Early registration by calling the library at 1-936-630-0563 or by emailing Cynthia at cmcmullen@cityoflufkin.com is recommended but not required to attend," Mrs. Cates said. "Computer time may be limited if there is a line. Only paper, pencils, and ancestry charts are allowed in the library. Lockers are provided in the research room for personal items."

No refreshments will be provided on June 4, but several fast food restaurants are located within a mile or two of the library for breakfast, lunch, or snacks.

You also are invited to attend the regular Aug. 15 meeting of the Angelina County Genealogical Society in the library at 5 p.m. An indoor end-of-summer picnic meal is planned along with a program to be concluded before the library closes at 7 p.m.

For further information, contact Vivian Cates at 1-936-858-3815, email  vcates@myinu.net  or call the ACGS president Herschel Dixon Jr. at 639-1411, or Vice President Keith Allred at 634-9343.
