NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches trooper arrested two Missouri residents Wednesday night after he reported finding 1.5 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of their car.

Lachaun Harrold, 25, of Furguson, Mo., and Tangie Qualls, 20, of St. Louis, are each charged with possession of marijuana, a state-jail felony.

Trooper John Williamson reported pulling over the duo, who were traveling northbound on U.S. 59, at 9:21 p.m., because of a defective license plate light on a 2001 Ford Mustang.

According to the report, Williamson spoke with the suspects and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He reported their behavior was consistent with those who participate in drug trafficking and received consent to search the vehicle.

Williamson found 1.55 pounds of marijuana in the trunk. The report indicates the drug carries a street value of $1,000.

Both were booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.
