A funeral service is set for Saturday for a Hemphill woman killed in a one-car wreck Sunday in San Augustine County.

The service will be held for Mozell Dupree, 72, at 1 p.m. at Hemphill High School Gym.

According to a DPS report, Dupree was heading eastbound in a 2008 Chevrolet 4-door on State Highway 21. Just before 5 p.m., her car left the roadway near County Road 134 and struck a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dupree is the grandmother of Dequahna Taylor, who is accused in the May 2010 death of a 22-month-old girl. Taylor is housed in the Sabine County Jail on a capital murder charge. A trial in the case is expected in the fall.

Dupree interviewed with KTRE in June 2010, and defended her granddaughter, saying Taylor was not the abusive type.
