TYLER, TX (KTRE) - The Central Heights boys baseball team is writing its own chapter in the school's history books. They are just one win away from securing a berth in next week's state championship finals.
They rolled past Hughes Springs Thursday night in Tyler to take Game 1.
"It's great. Most teams don't get this opportunity. We did it in '04 and I think this will be really special because Coach Russell and I both have a son that play on the team, so it'll be a double whammy," said Craig Fuller, Central Heights Head Baseball Coach.
The Blue Devils managed to throw a one-two punch in what amounted to a classic pitcher's duel Thursday night. They ended up beating Hughes Springs 1-0. "They work so hard their whole lives and this could be it for a lot of them so to finish at the top would be just be the ultimate," said Coach Fuller.
A win tonight sends them to the State Championship round.
