Freedom Fighters: Bud Williams

Posted: Updated:

Bud Williams was one of five brothers to fight in World War Two. Brothers Tobe, Tolley and Don all made it home safely. Bud's brother Dick, who had made a D-Day landing on Omaha Beach, was killed just a few weeks before the war ended.

Bud also was part of the D-Day landing June 6,1944 on Utah Beach.

The D-Day landing of Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy, France, was the biggest amphibious invasion in world history. Of the 160,000 Allied forces in the Normandy invasion, ten thousand became casualties.

Bud Williams was to go on and fight through France, Belgium and Germany, earning four Bronze Stars for valor. He only learned of his brother Dick's death after the war was over.
