LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The search for the next City of Lufkin Fire Chief.
After nearly 2 years in Lufkin, Chief Danny Kistner is moving to the Dallas area.
He will take over as the Fire Chief at the McKinney fire department at the beginning of July.
The city has appointed Battalion Chief Ted Lovett as the interim chief while they accept applications.
Kistner says he's enjoyed his time in Lufkin and leaves with mixed emotions.
"The past 18 months have been great. I've established some great relationships with some excellent firefighters. I've always said that with the resources they have to work with, the Lufkin firefighters, I'd put them against any firefighter anywhere," said Kistner.
"He's meant a lot to the department. He's brought a lot of new vision, a lot of focus toward, accountability, professionalism and safety and we again continue that trend and will continue that trend," said Lovett.
Kistner's last day is June 24th.
Lovett says he does plan to apply for the position.
