HOUSTON (AP) - Sam Fuld hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Oakland Athletics a 5-4 win over the Houston Astros last night. The A's trailed by one entering the ninth before Eric Sogard's RBI single. Fuld's two-out shot off Chad Qualls landed in the seats in right field to put Oakland up 5-3.
SEATTLE (AP) - Rougned Odor hit a third-inning grand slam to back Colby Lewis as the last-place Texas Rangers beat Seattle 12-4 yesterday. Erasmo Ramirez allowed 10 runs and nine hits in three-plus innings. Seattle had been the only major league team not to allow 10 or more runs in a game this season.
ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia State won for the first time as an FBS member when they beat Abilene Christian 38-37 last night. Georgia State snapped a 16-game losing streak. The Panthers' last victory came in October 2012 at Rhode Island. Parker McKenzie threw for 403 yards and four scores for Abilene Christian.
HOUSTON (AP) - Rookie Tom Savage looked like a polished pro leading the Texans to the winning touchdown and 2-point conversion against Denver last week. He has a bit more to do in today's preseason finale to overtake Case Keenum for the backup quarterback job behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. Keenum and Savage will try to make one last impression on Coach Bill O'Brien.
