LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Today was a great day to get out on the green and raise money for charity.

The Dog Days of Summer Golf Tournament is held to earn donations for the Humane Society of Angelina County and Winnie Berry Pet Adoption Center.

Each hole is sponsored by one of the many donors who help put on the event.

Since pet centers receive no government funding,  every donation counts.

The shelters use the money to care for each of the animals because they do not practice euthenization.

"They need all the help they can get. Obviously with the economy the way it is, funds are always tight, and the donations get smaller when times get tight like this," said Steven Morton, Vice President of STS Electronic Recycling, "so, I definitely think that it's a good opportunity for us to be able to support, and it's an honor."

STS electronic recycling is located next door to the humane society, and they encourage you to drop off all your recyclable electronics.

A portion of the profit from each donation is given to the shelter.

To make a donation directly to the shelter, call Lyndee Matthews at (936) 240-0098.
