WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner is joining President Barack Obama and a chorus of other Democrats in suggesting that Congressman Anthony Weiner resign.
Until now, Boehner has let Democrats wrestle with the issue themselves -- but when he was asked today whether the Democratic lawmaker should quit, he replied, "Yes."
Democratic House members have been meeting today -- and one member of Weiner's New York congressional delegation said she expects him to quit soon. House Democrats have begun a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill -- their first since colleague admitted he'd been carrying on an online relationship with several women, and that he lied about it.
They may try to give him a push to resign, perhaps by taking a committee assignment away from him.
