White House threatens veto over Iraq aid bill

Capitol Hill-AP -- The White House is threatening a veto over one major part of an 87 (B) billion dollar Iraq aid bill.

The Senate version of the bill requires that Iraq repay about nine (B) billion dollars of the money, although the debt could be forgiven if other countries forgive debts. The White House says making part of the aid a loan sends the wrong message as the U-S tries to rebuild Iraq. It's the first time the White House has made an explicit veto threat.Loan supporters say Iraq has immense oil wealth, and should be required to eventually repay some U-S assistance.
