ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Tickets are on sale now for the second annual Lufkin Pro Day Group banquet on July 8 which will honor two former Lufkin High School outstanding athletes.
Honored this year will be J.J. Montgomery and the late T.J. Turner. Montgomery is a Lufkin High School basketball stand-out who went on to play at Angelina College and Arkansas State. He has played professionally in Europe for the past six years. Turner played defensive tackle for LHS, the University of Houston and the Miami Dolphins. These two men will join 2010 Honoree and NFL Hall of Famer Ken Houston in the Lufkin Pro Day Group's Hall of Fame.
The two athletes will be honored at a banquet Friday, July 8 at the education room at the Ellen Trout Zoo and on Saturday, July 9 at a family fun day at Jones Park.
Tickets to Friday's event are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and include a catered meal, an opportunity to have your photo taken with Montgomery and a silent auction. Table sponsorships are available for Friday's banquet.
Saturday's Family Fun Day at Jones Park is free and open to the public. Vendors will be on hand selling food and there will be lots of games and prizes for everyone to participate.
Members of the committee in addition to councilman Shankle, include mayor Jack Gorden, Roy Knight, Superintendent Lufkin ISD; Barbara Thompson, vice-chairman; Leon Bagley, E. L. Brown, Gerald Coutee, Joe Houston, Don Muhlbach, Robert Proctor, Jr, Roy Poole, Paula Metzinger, Calvin Richard, and Kathi White.
Now in its second year, the Lufkin Pro Day Group was organized by Lufkin City Councilman Robert Shankle to honor graduates from Angelina County schools who have gone on to distinguish themselves, and thus Angelina County, on the professional playing field, while at the same time maintaining a standard of excellence on the playing field of life.
