LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man accepted a 20-year prison sentence in connection to the January 2010 shooting death of a Lufkin man.
Johnx Ray Greer, 20, was originally charged with murder but instead pleaded to the lesser included charge of aggravated assault, on Thursday.
Greer was accused of shooting the gun that killed Joseph Cooper on Cottonbelt Street.
Kendall Jo Thompson, 20, of Lufkin, was also charged with murder, but a jury found her not guilty of the charge in May.
Court testimony during the Thompson trial revealed her then-boyfriend, Elton Gibson, had agreed to an eight-year sentence on a charge of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, in exchange for his testimony against Thompson. Gibson's formal plea hearing is scheduled for Thursday, in Judge Gerald Goodwin's courtroom.
