LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A Lufkin mother charged with child abandonment for leaving her child alone received pre-trial diversion as her punishment Tuesday afternoon.
22 year old Ashley Montgomery will be on pre-trial diversion, which is similar to probation, for 24 months. During that period she has to among other things pay fines and court costs, cannot be in possession of a firearm, maintain a curfew, earn her high school diploma, do designated community service, take parenting cases and comply with all the terms of her Child Protective Services case.
Montgomery was arrested earlier this month after police found a child who had been left alone in her home around 1:15 a.m. The mother told police that someone else was supposed to be watching the child. That person told officers when he arrived at the house it was already locked, so he assumed she took the child with her.
