LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – A chase, a search, and discovery of marijuana landed Malcom Martell Long, 19, of Lufkin behind bars shortly after 4 o'clock Wednesday morning.

According to a police report, an officer noticed Long exceeding the posted 30-miles-per-hour speed limit in the 500 block of Abney Avenue, and tried to make a traffic stop.

Long was driving a tan 1999 Saturn when he lost control of his vehicle and skidded through the intersection of Abney Avenue and Keltys Street.  But that did not stop him, the report said, Long backed the car off the curb and drove north bound on Keltys Street.

With the overhead emergency lights on and the siren blaring the officer followed Long in his marked police car.  Long drove to a residence located in the 1000 block of Keltys Street before stopping his vehicle.  The officer said he found a plastic bag containing approximately five grams of marijuana.

Long was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention(third degree felony), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor).
