Lufkin woman dies in Thursday wreck

SAN JACINTO COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin woman died Thursday afternoon in a wreck on U.S. 59 in San Jacinto County.

Melinda Lee Permenter, 47, was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m. at the scene, a half-mile south of FM 2914.

According to the DPS report, Permenter was driving a 2007 Ford Carryall northbound on U.S. 59 when she left the road, struck a culvert, went airborne and skidded into a tree line.

A passenger in the vehicle, Sam Lyndon Permenter Jr., 46, was taken to a Livingston hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Both were wearing seatbelts.
