A two-car crash leaves three people injured and one Brazoria County deputy dead on Sunday night.
The accident happened on State Highway 6 in Brozaria County, when a pickup truck hit a patrol unit.
The driver of the pickup, Chance H. Chambers, 18, of Rosharon, and his passenger, Jarvis Harris, 17, was traveling eastbound when they turned in front of the deputy's car. The deputy's car then struck the pickup, according to a Department of Public Safety report.
Deputy Joshua Mark Waldrop, 26, of Pearland, who was the driver of the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria patrol unit, was critically injured with contusions and abrasions, according to the report. The passenger, Deputy Charles Vanmeter, 27, of Manvel, died at the scene. The report indicates that both deputies were wearing seat belts.
Chambers suffered head trauma and broken bones and was taken to a Houston hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. Harris also suffered broken bones and was taken to a Houston hospital. He is also listed in critical condition. It is unknown if they were wearing seatbelts.
