Think Pink

Throughout the month of October you have been presented with coverage of breast cancer awareness events. In Nacogdoches, Nacogdoches Medical Center culminated its campaign with a "Think Pink" ceremony.

The pink ribbon is the universal symbol for breast cancer awareness. The hospital's front lawn is lined with them to remind the community of this treatable life-threatening disease.

Physicians, volunteers and cancer survivors gathered to share personal accounts that they had with the disease. Cancer survivor Rhonda Robinson stressed early detection.

Robinson said, "My cancer was found through a mammogram. If I were not doing that it could have been two, three years and by that time it would have been so well advanced that my survival rate would not be as high as it is."

If detected early the five year survival rate exceeds 95%.
