Nacogdoches Mayor Roy Blake Jr. has made it official. He will eventually resign from municipal government to begin a pursuit for state leadership.
Blake announced that he will run for state representative of district nine. Speculation has circulated throughout the five county district that Blake would do this.
Blake spoke about his decision to run for state office.
He said, "I think it is a good time to enter state politics. I have always said that it has to be the right time. It has to be the right time personally and politically. And I think with an open seat it gives me the opportunity to take the experience that I've gained in public service and in community service (to a regional level)."
Blake says he'll resign as mayor to allow for an orderly transition and to devote attention to his campaign. His desire is to time the resignation close to a special election to fill his vacated spot.
