Four arrested after attempted Alto bank robbery

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Authorities in Cherokee County have arrested four suspects involved in an attempted bank robbery in Alto Wednesday afternoon.

According to Rusk Police Chief Joe Evans, several suspects drove up to the Alto Bank on Wednesday afternoon just after 3 p.m.

Evans said one male suspect approached the front door of the bank with a handgun and a bag, but could not get in because the bank had already locked its doors for the day. People working inside the bank saw him at the front door.

The suspects left Alto, but were arrested during a traffic stop by two Rusk police officers at the railroad park in Rusk on Highway 84. Evans said the suspects were apparently headed toward Palestine.

Three men, and one woman were arrested at the scene. Cherokee County authorities recovered two guns that the group threw from their car somewhere between Alto and Rusk.

The names of the four suspects have not been released.
