Two young women die in Polk County wreck early Sunday

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A one-vehicle wreck killed two young women Sunday morning, according to DPS.  The investigation is ongoing.

Around 7:30 A.M. DPS responded to a wreck on F.M. 350, about three miles southwest of Livingston.  According to the DPS report, Kaylee Welch, 21 of Livingston, was driving a 2-door Toyota northbound.  She had one passenger, Laura Miller, 25 of Livingston.

For still unknown reasons, Welch went off the roadway and hit a large, Pine tree.  Neither of the women were wearing seatbelts.

Welch was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:35 A.M. by Justice of the Peace Darrell Longino.  Miller was transported to Herman Hospital in Houston where she was pronounced dead by a doctor at 9:38 A.M.

DPS says they're still trying to figure out why their car left the road.
